Barlby is an inclusive school where we actively seek to remove the barriers to learning and participation that can hinder or exclude individual pupils, or groups of pupils. We welcome and celebrate diversity.
We support children through one to one, small group work and interventions led by teaching assistants, our learning mentor and teachers. We work collaboratively with external professionals, such as Speech and Language Therapists and Educational Psychologists, to ensure that children all make good progress. All our children are carefully tracked and monitored through their everyday learning and their progress is reviewed every term.

The Orchard, at Barlby Primary School, opened in September 2013 and is a specialist provision for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The Orchard consists of two classes – EYFS/KS1 and KS2 – each with six children. These children benefit from small class sizes in a low arousal environment, which is communication friendly. They also receive weekly Occupational Therapy, twice weekly Speech and Language Therapy and termly access to the Educational Psychologist.
As well as specialist support, children in The Orchard are linked to a mainstream class, where they have opportunities to learn alongside their peers. Inclusion is an important aspect of The Orchard and ensuring children access learning opportunities with their mainstream peers is a priority. These sessions can either take place in their link class, where our children join the whole class session or as reverse inclusion, where the children’s peers join an activity in The Orchard.
