Enriching the Curriculum

Enrichment, Visits and Wider Opportunities

At Barlby Primary School, we believe that learning extends far beyond the classroom. Our rich programme of educational visits, workshops, performances and enrichment activities is carefully planned to deepen curriculum learning, develop cultural capital and inspire curiosity, creativity and aspiration in every child.

Across the academic year, pupils experience a wide range of opportunities linked directly to their topics and personal development. These include visits to major cultural institutions such as the British Museum, Natural History Museum, National Theatre, Saatchi Gallery and Parliament, as well as local learning environments including Holland Park Ecology Centre and community landmarks. Workshops led by professional artists, musicians, actors and educators further enhance learning in school, from opera and composition projects with English National Opera and Royal Albert Hall partners, to drama, history and STEM-based sessions.

Performance opportunities are a key strength of our offer. Pupils regularly take part in concerts, festivals and public events such as massed choir performances, theatre productions, musical showcases and community celebrations. Residential experiences, including the Year 6 PGL visit, support pupils’ independence, resilience and teamwork.

We also provide a broad range of clubs and extended opportunities, including music tuition, choir, band, languages, art and enrichment workshops. Targeted opportunities such as SEND music projects, gifted and talented provision and careers-related learning for older pupils ensure that all children are supported to thrive.

Through this carefully planned programme, we aim to broaden horizons, raise aspirations and ensure every child leaves Barlby with memorable experiences, strong cultural awareness and the confidence to succeed in the wider world.

Music at Barlby

Music at Barlby Primary School is an important part of our everyday life.We have a focus on whole class instrumental music tuition, where children have the opportunity to learn the ukulele, recorder, ocarina, glockenspiel and djembe drums with a specialist music teacher. We are a strong singing school, with weekly singing assemblies and annual whole school musical productions taking place. Many children are involved in our extra-curricular musical programme which includes a school choir and a ukulele club. We have developed a flourishing partnership with the Tri-borough Music Hub which has enabled us to host instrumental music tuition with specialist musicians here at Barlby. Other opportunities for our pupils have included massed choir performances with professional orchestras at the Royal Albert Hall and the Kensington Town Hall.

We offer a broad curriculum at Barlby which enriches the children's experience and promotes a love of learning. We seek to recognise our children's talents.

Choir

The children in Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to join the choir from Autumn 2. Through this club the children learn a range of songs which are performed throughout the year to the rest of the school and the wider community.
