SEND at Barlby
Barlby Primary School is a highly inclusive school.
We teach many children with varied special educational needs and disabilities. We support parents and their children to access high quality provision in a mainstream school.
We have specialist staff and wider professionals in house to support varied needs through individualised provision. Our children learn together in collaboration with their peers. We endeavour to support our parents with expertise, guidance and advice to support their child’s development. We enable all children to regulate their emotions and behaviour to conduct themselves safely in school.
We are proud to promote our inclusive ethos and welcome parents to come and visit our school.

Definition of Special Educational Needs (SEN)
Children have special educational needs if they have a learning difficulty that calls for special educational provision to be made for them. Children have a learning difficulty if they
- Have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her
- Have a significantly greater difficulty with learning than the majority of others of the same age or,
- Have a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age in a mainstream school
Children must not be regarded as having a learning difficulty solely because the language of their home is different from the language in which they will be taught. Pupils with Special Educational Needs may have needs and requirements which may fall into at least one of the four following areas:
- communication and interaction.
- cognition and learning.
- social, emotional and mental health.
- sensory and/or physical needs.

The Orchard is commissioned for 18 places from Reception to Year 6. Please see below for our Admissions Policy.
